Taylor Fritz secured the Eastbourne International title after defeating Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-1. The World No. 5 earned his 10th ATP title and 5th on grass courts, extending his record as Eastbourne's most successful champion with four titles.
The American No. 1 had no trouble against his compatriot—who once again surprised by reaching an ATP final—and will head into Wimbledon with significant confidence after four consecutive wins in the week leading up to his debut at the All England Club.
The first set saw minimal differences, though Fritz appeared more dominant on serve, winning 70% of his first-serve points compared to Brooksby's 58%. The World No. 5 also consistently delivered aces that bailed him out of tough situations, totaling 8 in the set.
Nevertheless, it was Brooksby who first secured a break, taking a 3-2 lead in the fifth game. But Fritz quickly reacted, breaking back immediately to level the score. The set remained tied at 5-5 without further breaks, and Fritz capitalized on the tense moments, grabbing a crucial break just as it seemed headed for a tie-break. Fritz closed out the set 7-5, putting him on course for the title.
The second set proved much simpler for Fritz, who once again seized the match's momentum. After both players held their opening service games, Fritz saved a couple of break opportunities in the third game—the longest of the match. From that point, Brooksby had few chances, as Fritz completely dominated the play. He won 16 of the next 21 points, securing two consecutive breaks and sealing the victory 7-5, 6-1.
The World No. 4 was outstanding, winning 65% of points on his serve and 63% on return. He also hit 9 winners against his opponent's 7 and needed just two break opportunities to secure the win. Fritz now has 10 professional titles and will arrive at Wimbledon, which starts this Monday, in excellent form and confidence.
