On Wednesday (January 1), Elena Rybakina announced on Instagram that she has rehired her former coach Stefano Vukov for the 2025 season. Rybakina hired Novak Djokovic ‘s former coach Goran Ivanisevic after parting ways with Vukov after the 2024 US Open.
Under Vukov, Rybakina reached her career best ranking of No. 3, won the 2022 Wimbledon and reached the final in 2023 Australian Open. Vukov coached the Kazakh ace for five years but his coaching style was heavily criticized as he often could be seen shouting at Rybakina.
Then there were rumors that Rybakina had to deal with incessant insults and bad words which resulted in her firing Vukov. Before Rybakina’s latest announcement, there were rumors afloat that Vukov would be joining her in Melbourne to support her for the 2025 Australian Open.
Hello everyone. I am excited to announce that Stefano will be joining the team for the 2025 season. Thank you for all the support. And wishing you a great 2025.

In spite of the rumors, Rybakina never had anything bad to say about Vukov in public. She has always defended him but chose not to discuss much in detail the reasons behind their split.
Elena Rybakina is in Australia participating in the United Cup. Her performances helped Kazakasthan secure a spot in the semifinals. She is 3-0 in the three singles matches she played. Kazakhstan is scheduled to play Poland or Britain in the last four.
The 25-year-old skipped the Brisbane International where she is the defending champion, having lifted the title last year by beating World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. Rybakina however is happy with her decision and is positive about giving her best at the start of the season.
I always start the year well after the preseason, so I am also happy here with the two victories. Of course, I am not yet at my best. I’m glad I’m not at my best yet. I hope that will come closer to the Australian Open, but overall, I am very pleased with how I have played.
Elena Ryabakina said at the press conference
Last year at the Australian Open, however, Rybakina was knocked out of the second round. Despite her mediocre performance in Melbourne, Rybakina won tournaments in the first half of the year and even reached multiple finals. Toward the end of the year, however, she gave walkovers and withdrew from various tournaments.
