Emma Raducanu's coaching puzzle continues as Petchey confirms no long-term deal

Emma Raducanu's coach, Mark Petchey, revealed that for the moment, they will not have a long-term agreement, despite their notable collaboration at Wimbledon. The Brit continues to face problems finding stability in her team, and Petchey's re-incorporation seemed to improve everything.

Raducanu secured a couple of victories at SW19 that were confidence-boosting, after bringing Petchey back into her team. She defeated her compatriot Mingge Xu and then the 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova – cutting a streak of 6 consecutive wins on grass-courts.

Petchey worked with Raducanu from an early age at the National Tennis Centre, and they began a collaboration at the Miami Open this year – after Raducanu separated from Nick Cavaday and a brief trial period with Vladimir Platenik.

Despite Petchey bringing good results on the court for Raducanu, the coach's own personal projects do not allow him to fully commit to Raducanu. Recently, in his appearance on the Nothing Ventured Podcast, the coach explained that they do not plan a long-term agreement.

"I think at the moment we are a bit more short-term. Our situation is a little fluid at the moment. I am going to help her this week as much as I can, I have some other commitments I can’t get out of. We are very aware she needs a second coach to come on board and maybe just one coach, not me, as well," he said. (1:55 onwards)

“All I am trying to do is facilitate the best possible environment for Emma to produce the best tennis she can. Whether that involves me or does not involve me is not a question I am worried about, we are just trying to find something that will be stable or good for her.”

Raducanu was eliminated in the third round of Wimbledon in a tight match against world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. She now has a few weeks off before returning to the court in the US hardcourt-swing, where she will play the WTA 500 DC Open as her first tournament. Raducanu currently sits as world No. 37 in the live ranking, and should she have good performances upon her return to the court, she could fight for a seeded spot in the upcoming US Open at the end of August.
