The entry list for the ATP 250 Swiss Open Gstaad European Open has been unveiled. The tournament will take place from July 14th to 20th, featuring World No. 3 Alexander Zverev as the top seed. Played on clay courts, this event will be the final week of clay-court
Highlights of the field include two-time champion Matteo Berrettini (2018, 2024) and Casper Ruud (2021-2022). These three main favorites will face interesting contenders in a tournament brimming with clay-court specialists, all looking to make an impact before heading to the North American hardcourts.
With the grass swing concluding at Wimbledon, the week of July 14th marks the transition to the hardcourt swing. However, a couple of clay tournaments will offer a final European farewell for some of the Tour's big names.
Sascha Zverev arrives as one of the favorites on this surface. While many players take time to adapt after grass, Zverev's experience could prevail. He recently reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros and boasts a total of 9 clay titles, including four Masters 1000 events.
Meanwhile, Casper Ruud was a recent champion at the Madrid Open and is a two-time Roland Garros finalist. The World No. 16 will surely see a good opportunity to regain ground in the rankings as he fights to return to the Top 10.
Adding to the star power is Matteo Berrettini, a two-time champion of the tournament (and a finalist in 2022, where he lost to Ruud). A key question remains: will any of these three main favorites have a deep run at Wimbledon—and potentially withdraw from Gstaad?
For this reason, it promises to be an open draw. Clay-court specialists like Pedro Martinez (No. 54), Tomas Martin Etcheverry (No. 63), and Laslo Djere (No. 65) are names who have collected titles on the surface. Also noteworthy is Alexander Bublik, who seems to be developing a new relationship with clay courts after reaching his first Grand Slam quarterfinals at none other than the French Open.
