Entry List ATP U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships 2025 including Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe and Alejandro Tabilo

The Entry List for the ATP 250 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, also known as the Houston Open, has been confirmed. The tournament will serve as a transition into the clay swing, taking place in the first week after the Sunshine Double, allowing several stars already in the U.S. to make a stop before heading to Europe.

The event's biggest names include Americans Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, and Alex Michelsen, while Alejandro Tabilo and Tomás Martín Etcheverry could challenge the local stars.

American stars set to shine

In the past three editions, the tournament has seen American champions: Reilly Opelka (2022), Frances Tiafoe (2023), and Ben Shelton (2024). In fact, six of the last eight editions have had American winners, with exceptions being Juan Mónaco (2016) and Cristian Garin (2019). Since the tournament moved to Houston in 2001, only three finals have not featured an American player.

The top favourite is Tommy Paul, World No. 11, who has never reached a final on clay. As a junior, he excelled on the surface, winning five Futures titles, a Challenger, and the French Open junior title. This could be a great opportunity for Paul to improve his clay-court record and kickstart the clay swing in the best way possible.

Frances Tiafoe (No. 17) will be the second seed in one of his favourite tournaments, having won the 2023 title and reached the 2024 final. While Tiafoe is not known for his clay-court success, playing at home always gives him an extra boost, making him a crowd favourite once again.

Alejandro Tabilo (No. 31) and Tomás Martín Etcheverry (No. 45) lead the South American contingent, which traditionally finds its best results during the clay swing. Neither player has had a strong start to 2025, especially the Chilean Tabilo, who holds a 0-6 record so far this season. However, they could benefit from the lack of clay-court specialists among the top seeds to make a deep run and turn their season around.

Other seeded players include Americans Alex Michelsen (No. 32), Brandon Nakashima (No. 33), and Marcos Giron (No. 48), along with Australian Jordan Thompson (No. 38). Other names to watch are Learner Tien (No. 68), Kei Nishikori (No. 76), and Juncheng Shang (No. 55).

Former champions Reilly Opelka and Cristian Garin appear among the alternates. Opelka has already secured a wild card in case he does not qualify, while two more wild cards are yet to be announced. It remains to be seen whether the tournament will grant one to former champion Garin or opt for local stars.
