The Entry List is set for the ATP 500 Barcelona Open, taking place from April 14-20, 2025, during the European clay swing and as one of the most traditional ATP 500 tournaments. This will be the first edition held after Rafael Nadal’s retirement, a notable absence that will undoubtedly mark this year’s event.

The defending champion is Casper Ruud, who defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in 2024. Tsitsipas has lost in all four finals he has contested at this tournament — could this be the year he gets his revenge?

Nadal’s absence will be significant this year, as he holds virtually every record in Barcelona. A 12-time champion, in a total of 12 finals, he is the player with the most matches played (72), the most titles won (67), and the highest match-winning percentage (93.1%). However, his absence also opens up an opportunity for some of the clay-court specialists, as the last three editions have seen new champions crowned.

The first seed will be two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz (2022, 2023), who will be looking to claim his third title at this ATP 500, held the week after the Monte-Carlo Masters.

The tournament features four top-10 players and nine currently in the top 20, making it one of the most competitive draws we’ve seen for an ATP 500 this year. Alongside Ruud and Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur, and Holger Rune will be among the top title contenders.

Although the wildcard entries are yet to be announced, nearly all players in the draw are ranked in the top 40, with the only exception being Reilly Opelka (No. 114), who enters with a protected ranking of No. 33 after a couple of years away from the courts due to injury.
