The entry list for the WTA 500 Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo has been revealed. The tournament, which will host its 40th edition, is one of the WTA’s most traditional events. It will be played from October 20 to 26 and will be the last WTA 500 event of the year, marking the final stage of the Asian Swing and the season for several participating stars.

The tournament boasts a history of champion former World No. 1s and Grand Slam winners, including Martina Hingis (5 titles), Lindsay Davenport (4), Maria Sharapova (2), and Caroline Wozniacki (2). The defending champion is none other than Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen, who won her first title in this category a year ago.

The tournament will feature four Top 10 players and up to 12 players inside the Top 20, likely making it the last event of the year to bring together this many major stars. Joining defending champion Zheng among the favorites are Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, and Elena Rybakina.

The tournament will include other heavy-hitting names looking to accumulate points in the final part of the season. While Paolini and Rybakina will be locked in a tight battle for a spot in the WTA Finals, for many, securing these final points can mean an increase in the end-of-year bonus pool for those fighting to enter the Top 10 or the Top 30—positions that carry a financial boost at the end of the year.

Tokyo draws top talent for last WTA 500 of the year

It will be an open draw without one overwhelming favorite, where the four Top 10 players will begin with a first-round bye, awaiting their opponent. However, the first round will feature major names, such as four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka. As a local star, she will have a fixed place on the center court.

Other former Grand Slam champions will also be present, including Emma Raducanu, Sofia Kenin, and Marketa Vondrousova, who will travel to Tokyo to conclude the Asian Swing. Other notable names include Victoria Mboko, Leylah Fernandez, Karolina Muchova, Belinda Bencic, and Emma Navarro.
