Eva Lys thrashes Madrid standout Moyuka Uchijima, sets up Rome Open clash with Elena Rybakina
IPA

Eva Lys was well beaten by Jessica Pegula at the Madrid Open who then went on to be beaten by Moyuka Uchijima but the tables ironically turned on Wednesday night at the Rome Open with the German No.1 thrashing the Japanese ace 6-1, 6-0.

Lys who continues to grow in stature and confidence after her run at the Australian Open, becoming German No.1 and also such off the court endeavours as becoming a Porsche ambassador will want to put it together on court.

She did so on Wednesday seeing off one of the standout players from the Madrid Open with relative ease. It was sheer domination from Lys who was dominating the rallies and her first serve which she won 78% of compared to only 42% from the Japanese ace.

Second serves were just as good with 63% won showing depth from both sides. She also cleaned out 5/6 break points and only allowed Uchijima one in the whole match. Next up is a certain Elena Rybakina.

It could yet be a tricky time for the Kazakh who has shown glimmers this season but amid all of the off court travails with banned coach Stefano Vukov, she is yet to put a sustained run together. She beat Bianca Andreescu last week but was well beaten by Elina Svitolina in the next round.

In Miami, she was skittled out by Ashlyn Krueger and has only really shown form in the Billie Jean King Cup so if Lys can get out of the gates in a similar vein as she did against Uchijima, it could be a tricky tie for Rybakina who continues to tumble down the rankings at some pace.

So a big week is needed and the German has a confidence boosting win to add to her win-loss column and could add to that.
