World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka may have lost two consecutive Grand Slam finals this season, but exchanging ideas with 25-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has helped lessen the impact of those losses.
The big-hitting Belarusian is through to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, having defeated former doubles partner Elise Mertens in the round of 16. Sabalenka will face German veteran Laura Siegemund in the final eight, with hopes of again reaching the final four at SW19.
Following her round of 16 victory, Sabalenka spoke on how she tries to surround herself with positive people. The top seed revealed she often seeks advice from Djokovic, and stated their talks have helped improve her mental focus.
"I talk to Novak a lot," said Sabalenka. "He has an incredible understanding of the game, and every time we talk, it really helps me. We talked about energy management, the mental approach to big finals.
"Another time, he even helped me with the return. He often makes fun of me because I copied his return. I tell him, 'Listen, it works. I copy the best.' Most of our conversations revolve around that: how to approach important moments, manage your emotions, stay centered within yourself."
Sabalenka is hoping to win her first Wimbledon title this year, having reached the semifinals at the 2023 edition. The Belarusian was forced to withdraw from last year's event due to injury, but has been in devastating form over the past week.
Although she is yet to drop a set at the grass court Major, Sabalenka will face a tricky opponent in Siegemund. The 37-year old has been one of the surprises of the tournament, defeating 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys en route to her quarterfinal showdown with Sabalenka.
