Tennis can be unforgiving, and now another former top 20 player has decided to step away from the sport for good.

This year has seen several players leave the game, starting with Simona Halep, who retired in February.

Caroline Garcia also walked away after the US Open, saying at the time that she was content with her decision.

Andy Murray called it a day after the Olympics, while Rafael Nadal waited until the Davis Cup. That left Novak Djokovic as the last of tennis’ big three still playing.

And as 2025 wraps up, another long-time member of the ATP Tour has brought his playing days to an end.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas calls time on career after challenger event in Valencia

The 37-year-old made a solid start in Valencia, taking down top seed and fellow Spaniard Pedro Martinez in the last 32.

Ramos-Vinolas followed that up with another win but then ran into Jan Choinski in the quarterfinals, where the Brit came out on top 6-4, 7-5.

At his age, he’d been grinding it out on the Challenger circuit and hadn’t featured on the main ATP Tour since a first-round loss at the US Open back in 2024.

But looking back, there’s plenty for him to be proud of. He’s beaten some of the sport’s best and ticked off achievements many players never come close to.

Looking back at Albert Ramos-Vinolas’ tennis career

Ramos-Vinolas reached a career-high ranking of 17th in the world and put together several strong performances along the way. He also had some notable wins against top players throughout his time on tour.

Year Title
2016 ATP 250 – Swedish Open
2019 ATP 250 – Gstaad
2021 ATP 250 – Estoril Open
2022 ATP 250 – Cordoba Open

In 2015, he beat Roger Federer in the round of 32 at the Shanghai Masters, one of the standout victories of his career.

Two years later, he defeated Andy Murray at the Monte Carlo Masters and went on to reach the final.

Later in his career, Ramos-Vinolas became a regular presence on the Challenger Tour, where he won 12 titles and finished runner-up in eight more finals.
