Several top ATP players will compete at the 2026 ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam. 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur, and Stan Wawrinka, who is retiring after this season, are in the draw. There were also some high-profile withdrawals from the Dutch tournament, including from the world No. 1.

Five Players Withdraw From 2026 ABN AMRO Open

Which Players Have Withdrawn?

Carlos Alcaraz will not defend his title at the ABN AMRO Open. The Spaniard defeated de Minaur, who also lost the 2024 final, to triumph last year. A social media post from the event confirmed that Alcaraz wanted more time to rest and recover after how hard he worked to win the Australian Open. Players withdrawing from their next scheduled tournament after winning or being the runner-up at a Grand Slam is very common.

Alexander Zverev was the second player to withdraw from the ABN AMRO Open. The German served for the match against Alcaraz in their Australian Open semifinal, but could not get over the line. He named an ankle issue as the reason for not playing in Rotterdam. Although that physical problem is undoubtedly genuine, Zverev might also need time to recover mentally from losing to Alcaraz.

Jack Draper also withdrew from the ATP 500 tournament. He missed the final few months of 2025 because of an arm injury. Last year’s BNP Paribas Open champion made his return in the Davis Cup a few days ago, but decided against appearing in Rotterdam. He likely thought playing again so soon risked a flare-up of that injury.

Tomas Machac and Kamil Majchrzak were the other two players to withdraw from the ABN AMRO Open. Machac retired against Arthur Gea a few days ago in Montpellier due to a knee injury, making competing again so soon impossible. The reason for Majchrzak’s decision has not been publicly revealed.

Who replaced those players in the draw?

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard replaced Alcaraz at the ABN AMRO Open. The Frenchman retired after the first set in Montpellier against Arthur Gea, but that has not prevented him from being ready to compete again swiftly. Many players undoubtedly dread drawing him because of his massive serve, and he will face Tallon Griekspoor in the opening round. Jesper De Jong, another Dutchman who has a chance to thrive from home support, took Zverev’s place and was drawn against Karen Khachanov.

37-year-old Roberto Bautista Agut received an opportunity because of Draper’s decision to withdraw. The former Wimbledon semifinalist, who is still playing great tennis despite his age, will play Cameron Norrie. Botic van de Zandschulp, known for beating Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 US Open, replaced Machac. He was drawn against Luka Pavlovic. Jan-Lennard Struff, who will face Hugo Grenier, is the other player now in the ABN AMRO Open draw.
