From €130,000 to €440,000: Lois Boisson dream French Open run continues to pay dividends
Sipa Press

French women’s tennis player Lois Boisson is going through an incredible phase of her career. The 22-year-old is set to feature in the quarterfinal of the French Open against Russia’s Mirra Andreeva.

Because of that, Boisson is set to receive a whopping sum of 440,000 Euros, which will be more than thrice what she managed to earn throughout her career since the start. Before coming to the second Grand Slam of the year, the Dijon-born earned less than 130,000 Euros in her career. Boisson started the competition brightly as she defeated current world number 24 Elise Mertens with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

In the second round, she got the better of Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2. In the third round, Boisson defeated fellow countrywoman Elsa Jacquemot with a score of 6-3, 0-6, 7-5. Her biggest win came in the fourth round where she defeated the 2024 US Open runner-up America’s Jessica Pegula with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Talking after the match, Boisson admitted that she never thought about making it this far in a Grand Slam, that too after beating one of the top contenders in the competition.

“I [would] not believe that if you tell me that two weeks ago," she said. "I trust in myself, but for sure, if you say that, no, I can't believe. Now it's that, and I'm so happy about it. Roland-Garros is a dream and it's a goal, so being in the quarter-finals is already a step ahead. Obviously, it's absolutely great for me to have such a run. I couldn't hope for anything better when I came here. … It represents a lot to be in the quarter-finals here, and I hope to go even further."

Boisson will now face Russia’s Mirra Andreeva, who cemented her spot in the last eight after beating Australia’s Daria Kasatkina in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
