Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov’s possible return date has been revealed. The 34-year-old suffered a heartbreaking exit from Wimbledon 2025 in the fourth round. Dimitrov was leading the world number one Jannik Sinner two sets to love. In the third set, while making it two games all, Dimitrov partially tore his pectoralis major muscle, forcing him to retire.

Dimitrov was shaken by what happened and left the court in tears. It was the fifth consecutive Grand Slam where he had to retire due to a fitness issue. According to TennisKafe.com, Dimitrov will return to the court just before the start of the US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year will be played between August 24 and September 07 in New York.

The development means that Dimitrov will miss three ATP titles, including the Toronto Masters and the Cincinnati Open. Overall, this year, Dimitrov has won 14 out of 24 matches. Interestingly, it was the fifth time this year that Dimitrov retired mid-match. Earlier, he also had to quit playing during the semifinals of the Brisbane International, the first round of the Australian Open, the first round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and the first round of the French Open.

His opponent at Wimbledon, Sinner, who will be facing America’s Ben Shelton in the quarterfinal, was also shocked by what happened on the court. “I don’t know what to say,” said Sinner while speaking to BBC One. “He is an incredible player, I think we all saw this today. He has been so unlucky in the past couple of years. An incredible player, a good friend of mine also. We understand each other very well off the court and seeing him in this position. If there were a chance he could play the next round, he would deserve it, but mostly I hope he has a speedy recovery.”
