Ons Jabeur will take a break from tennis after withdrawing over the past day alongside Aryna Sabalenka and Paula Badosa from Montreal.
Jabeur though unlike the other two who have cited fatigue and injury as their reasoning has not been right for some time in her own words and has decided to give herself some time to return to her best.
The Tunisian is a fans favourite and has endured more heartbreak than most. She was open about wanting to take a break and become a mother but only when she'd won a Grand Slam. But she lost twice in two years at Wimbledon to Elena Rybakina and Marketa Vondrousova in the final.
Albeit since then she has been nowhere near that point with the two-time finalist retiring in tears a fortnight ago against Viktoriya Tomova.
She took a medical time-out during the fifth game and had her blood pressure taken. She returned 14 minutes after leaving the court for treatment and tried to play on but conceded the match 7-6(5), 2-0.
She has battled a series of injury and health problems including issues with her knee in particular and has made the decision to put down her racquet for now quipping that she has not been happy in some time.
"For the past two years, I've been pushing myself so hard, fighting through injuries and facing many other challenges. But deep down, I haven't truly felt happy on the court for some time now," she wrote.
"Tennis is such a beautiful sport. But right now, I feel it's time to take a step back and finally put myself first: to breathe, to heal, and to rediscover the joy of simply living.
"Thank you to all my fans for understanding. Your support and love mean the world to me. I carry it with me always. Even while I'm away from the court, I'll continue to stay close and connected in different ways, and share this journey with you all. Ons."
