Adriano Panatta has a special place in history. He remains the only Italian player in men’s tennis to win the French Open title. On Sunday, May 08th, Jannik Sinner came very close to joining that list.

He had three championship points in the fourth set of the final at the Roland Garros. However, Carlos Alcaraz had some other ideas as he went on to lift the title after winning the contest with a score of 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. The game lasted more than five hours and became officially the longest final in the competition's history.

Panatta has spoken to Italian sports publication Tuttosport after the final of the French Open, where he highlighted how Alcaraz and Sinner are miles ahead of other players in men’s tennis and believes that people should get used to seeing the two in the finals of big competitions. The 74-year-old then went on to name Lorenzo Musetti as the only player who can compete with Alcaraz and Sinner in the near future.

"Alcaraz and Sinner are way ahead of everyone else, so we have to get used to seeing them almost always in the final, because I don't see anyone who can beat them,” he said. “The only one who could perhaps do it is Musetti, because he is the most talented of all and, in my opinion, he could be the one to give them a hard time in the future, if of course he manages to further improve certain aspects of his game and his performances. Especially since Djokovic is a certain age, even if he proved his worth by fighting to the end against Sinner in the semi-finals. I don't see how Zverev could worry them, while Draper is a good player, but he doesn't convince me too much, so I think Lorenzo could be the only one capable of competing."
