Historic College Program Continues Unreal NCAA Title Streak
Quinn Harris-Imagn Images

The Stanford Cardinal athletics program has a ton of national titles. Per its website, Stanford had 136 national NCAA team championships and 167 total team championships, marking the most in all of college sports by a wide margin, before Sunday.

UCLA (124 NCAA titles) and USC (113 NCAA titles) are other high-profile schools with a long list of crowns, but the Cardinal are above and beyond as the historic athletic program in the country.

Now, the Stanford legacy has grown even more. On Sunday, the Stanford women's water polo team won the national title over USC.

As a result, this marked the 49th season in a row in which Stanford has won a national title of some sort.

It's a historic feat for Stanford, and the school has won a national title every season dating all the way back to 1976-77. That year, it was men's tennis and men's water polo that began the streak.

Here are some other sports that have won a national title at Stanford:

  • Women's and men's swimming and diving
  • Women's tennis
  • Baseball
  • Women's basketball
  • Women's gymnastics
  • Men's and women's cross country
  • Coed sailing
  • Synchronized swimming
  • Men's and women's soccer
  • Women's lightweight rowing

There are plenty of others, and Stanford continues to be the Home of Champions.

After the water polo victory, the Stanford account posted a graphic as it marked the 137th NCAA team title.

This also marked the 10th title in women's water polo program history, so it's quite the accomplishment for one of the most decorated universities in the country.

If Stanford wins a title next year, it would mark the 50th in a row.

'I shouldn't have said yes to doing that' - Taylor Fritz reflects on being setup during viral interview at the ESPYs

After a moment that left him slightly embarrassed, tennis star Taylor Fritz has expressed regret at agreeing to an interview that would later go viral due to the American's slight inebriation. The top-ranked American was present at the annual ESPY's event, where a clip featuring him would later go viral. Fritz was interviewed by a social media influencer, who would ask him a question as the California native was leaving the venue. Slightly intoxicated, Fritz agreed to answer a quick question. However, the interviewer would present Fritz with a math problem, asking for the total amount of 50 $20 bills, to which the American was unable to quickly solve due to his intoxication. "Let me think for a second," responded Fritz. "Uh, every five is a hundred, so... every five is a hundred, so that’s... I’ve been drinking too much tonight. Every five is a hundred, so... there’s ten fives—I mean... it’s $10,000" Fritz goes viral, regrets interview once sober The clip of Fritz failing the simple math question would find it's way to the internet, initially posted by the Instagram account @alfredopastadonn. Subsequently, Fritz would be forced to chime in on the matter during a press conference at the ongoing DC Open, where he was unsure on whether the interviewer's goal was to embarrass him. "I shouldn't have said yes to doing that," said the World No.4. "I knew it was one of those. I had just left the ESPYs after party... I'm actually pretty happy with how it turned out, because when I did the interview, in my head, I thought that I was, like, going to sound super drunk. But I actually sounded very coherent, like normal. I don't think you'd ever tell from watching the video. I was happy about that. "I know those street interviews are such a setup too. He said he was going to interview me, ask me some questions, and he hit me with a math question. It's really bad. It's really, really bad." The 27-year old is the top seed at the DC Open, where he advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Italian Matteo Arnaldi in straigtht sets.

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan leaves behind a complicated legacy

On Thursday, wrestling icon Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea died at the age of 71. "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away," the company said in a statement. "One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s... WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans." Hogan was the first true superstar to emerge in the wrestling industry, capturing a casual audience worldwide and bringing new eyes to the sport. He was an unbelievable draw, both as a baby face and as a heel. From his time as an All-American hero to leading the New World Order and teaming with Randy Savage as part of the "Mega Powers," he has been a staple of the scene for decades. Who can forget his WrestleMania III moment, where he defied the laws of physics to body-slam a 520-pound Andre the Giant? Or, more recently, his match with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania 18? His last appearance on WWE RAW on Jan. 6 saw him booed throughout, highlighting the rocky legacy Hogan leaves behind. Hogan's universal popularity has plummeted in recent years, primarily due to a racism scandal that led to his removal from the Wrestling Hall of Fame, only to be reinstated in 2018. Nevertheless, the damage had been done. Hogan's outdated and unwelcome outlook on specific aspects of life derailed the final stanza of a legendary career. Still, there's no denying that without Hogan, the wrestling we know and love today wouldn't exist. There wouldn't be WWE on the world's largest streaming platform, or All Elite Wrestling, which is developing into one of the most successful challenger brands. Instead, there would be smaller, more localized promotions, all competing for a sliver of television time. Hogan popularized the sport by bridging the gap between the wrestling ring and Hollywood. During his time in the spotlight, Hogan appeared in movies such as "Rocky III," "No Holds Barred" and "Suburban Commando," all of which helped bring his larger-than-life persona to a new audience. It's no surprise, then, that The Rock, John Cena and Dave Bautista have all made similar jumps in recent years. Hogan leaves behind an everlasting imprint on the wrestling world. Unfortunately, it comes with multiple asterisks; however, that doesn't change what he achieved as the first global wrestling star.

Jonathan Kuminga Open to Kings Move Amid Prolonged Prolonged Free Agency

What could have been a very exciting offseason for Golden State Warriors fans has turned into one of dread. They haven’t made any major additions to the roster, aside from a couple of late second-round picks from the Draft, and the Jonathan Kuminga situation has gone from bad to worse. It’s clear that the Congolese baller no longer wants to be part of the Dubs. He wants to be a first or second option, and Head Coach Steve Kerr hasn’t been able to run the team with Kuminga as the centerpiece. The issue, however, has been finding a way out. Kuminga has placed a high value on every trade package, one that other teams have been unwilling to match. As a result, Kuminga hasn’t agreed to a contract that would allow the Warriors to sign-and-trade him, leaving him to explore free agency, an option that likely won’t land him a big payday. Recent reports, however, have linked him to the Sacramento Kings, a franchise the Warriors were previously reluctant to deal with regarding Kuminga. Warriors insider Anthony Slater revealed in an ESPN podcast that Kuminga has had contact with Kings’ General Manager Scott Perry for the first time, and was impressed with what they were offering. “He liked the pitch that Scott Perry gave, and he’s open-minded to the idea of Sacramento,” Slater said. “And I think part of that pitch is, you’re talking starting role, you’re talking bigger opportunity than the Warriors are [giving] necessarily now. And I think that’s the part that shouldn’t get lost in this whole situation.” Slater then emphasized that Kuminga isn’t just chasing money, he’s also looking to be the star in a new team. And the Kings, for now, seem to be the only team that can make that happen. “Kuminga is not just looking for the exact contract he wants and free agency. He’s looking for the opportunity he wants on the court,” Slater concluded. Kuminga was selected seventh overall in the 2021 Draft and played a supporting role in Golden State’s championship win during his rookie season. Expectations were high, but it soon became evident that he wasn’t part of Kerr’s long-term plans. To his credit, Kuminga didn’t shy away from calling the Warriors out in front of the media. It appears the relationship between the two is now beyond repair. A move away, and soon, would be best for both parties, especially for the Warriors, who are looking to clear salary space to make additions ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.

Saints playmaker made a key change this offseason that could turn him into a Pro Bowl caliber player by season's end

Training camp is the time for excitement around the NFL. Highlights begin. Players compete. Coaches learn. All at once, fans get their first glimpse of their favorite team ahead of preseason football. For the New Orleans Saints, one of their key offensive skill players is ready to make an impact and will look different doing it this season. Rashid Shaheed standing out at Saints training camp The speedster for New Orleans has burst onto the scene over the last two seasons and was set to create new personal bests last season before an injury ended his campaign. Shaheed is known for his downfield receiving ability and elite speed. He is also one of the top returners in all of football on special teams. So far in camp, he has been impressive those in attendance, including his teammates. Shaheed looks bigger (because he's added muscle). With that size, he feels a bit more comfortable in contested catch situations - without losing the dynamic of his special speed and agility. That's showing up in practice. Shaheed's added weight to try to stay healthy going forward According to the wideout himself, he added weight this offseason in an effort to stay healthier and play a bit stronger at his position. “For a guy like me, it is pretty hard to put on weight. Just implementing the speed and the weight it was important, I feel like I handled it well.” -- Shaheed via NOFNetwork Shaheed should be a major factor for the passing game in New Orleans under Kellen Moore. The young head coach likes to use unique looks and move guys around plenty. We saw that with Chris Olave in the backfield earlier in the week. I will not be surprised to see some carries or motion uses for Shaheed sometime in practice and-or games, too. You want to get the football in those guys' hands as often as possible. Not to mention, that can lighten the load on veteran running back Alvin Kamara as well. Regardless, it is clear that Shaheed is focused on staying available and active for the Saints this season. His success could be paramount for whoever wins the quarterback competition.
