How Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner might have fared against Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are both on the path to making history in the sport.

Currently ranked first and second in the world, the Spaniard and the Italian have been a cut above everyone else on tour, dominating men’s tennis this year.

“First off I do not like to compare generations because if you throw Sinner/Alcaraz with the BIG 3 there are a lot of losses early for Carlito and Jannik but as they grow they would have more than held their own,” Macci posted on X.

“Djokovic for sure is still better than both, Federer/Sinner close, Rafa would be third but remember these matches were over five sets and played many times a year so who knows!”

Writing on X, Macci said: “Many people chirping [that] Alcaraz [and] Sinner benefit from a weaker top ten than with Fed, Joker, Rafa [and Andy] Murray, etc.

“I agree but the eye test says Carlos [and] Jannik would do just fine and the others in the top ten would be top twenty and most likely the big three would not have become the big three. It cuts both ways.”

Plenty of fans feel that Sinner and Alcaraz’s rise is happening at a time when there’s less depth in men’s tennis compared to previous eras.

Alexander Zverev, currently ranked third, hasn’t managed to beat either Sinner or Alcaraz this year.

While Djokovic is still active at 38, he has openly admitted that he can no longer compete with the top two players in the world.

How Sinner and Alcaraz’s Grand Slam hauls compare to the all-time list

Carlos Alcaraz added a sixth Grand Slam title this year, putting him level with Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg on the all-time list.

He now sits just one behind John McEnroe and Mats Wilander, and two shy of Andre Agassi, Ivan Lendl, and Jimmy Connors.

Jannik Sinner has picked up four majors in total, after claiming a second Australian Open title as well as his first Wimbledon championship in 2025.

Sinner has also passed Murray and Wawrinka’s three majors. He now stands alongside Jim Courier and Guillermo Vilas with four Slams apiece.

The last two Grand Slam seasons have been completely dominated by Sinner and Alcaraz, who have split all eight titles between them since 2024.
