'I hope they’ll just let me do my job': Iga Swiatek blasts Polish media after Wimbledon title

Iga Swiatek responded to Polish media after winning the Wimbledon title. The 24-year-old claimed her 6th Grand Slam title after overwhelming Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in a historic final, which helped her leave behind a challenging past year.

Iga had fallen in seven semifinals since winning the French Open title and then lost in the Bad Homburg Open final a couple of weeks prior. However, at Wimbledon, she broke her title drought in the best possible way, with an impeccable campaign that gave her her 6th major title.

"Well, honestly, the thing is that we as public people and as athletes, we can't really react to everything that's going on. We got to focus on ourselves,” she said. "Obviously, sometimes it's easier to do that, sometimes it's harder. For sure the past months, how the media sometimes describe me - and I have to say, unfortunately, the Polish media - how they treated me and my team wasn't really pleasant.”

"I hope they will just leave me alone and let me do my job because obviously you can see that we know what we are doing, and I have the best people around me,” the former World No. 1 added. “I have already proved a lot. I know people want more and more, but it's my own process and my own life and my own career. Hopefully I'm going to have freedom from them, as well, to let me do my job the way I want it."

Swiatek thus claims her 6th Grand Slam title – surpassing the record of legends like Maria Sharapova and Martina Hingis. The Pole finds her stride again this season and secures her position as World No. 3 in the WTA Ranking and second in the WTA Race. With confidence at an all-time high, she will have a couple of weeks off before returning to the courts at the Canadian Open.
