'I would almost bet on him if…' Uncle Toni Nadal reveals how Rafael Nadal will have a realistic chance of winning Roland Garros
Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

Rafael Nadal ‘s childhood coach and uncle Toni Nadal has full faith in his nephew’s abilities as he is betting on the 37-year-old to win the 2024 Roland Garros despite all the challenges surrounding the Spaniard. Toni says that if a couple of things go in Rafael’s favor, he will come out on top.

The tennis coach who now runs the Rafael Nadal Academy analyzed Nadal’s chances and said that there are possibilities of him getting knocked out in the first few rounds because he is not seeded. However, Toni Nadal believes that if his nephew is able to survive till the second week, he is ready to bet on him.

He expects the 14-time French Open champion to make the most of any opportunity that comes his way. Toni also admits that the Spanish legend will need some luck in his favor to turn things around.

I think that if he has a little luck in the draw, which will be essential for him to pick up the pace… Since he is not seeded, he could have a very good opponent in the first rounds. If Rafael manages to have a little luck and he has an affordable frame left in the first days, if he reaches the second week, I would almost bet on him. Toni Nadal said about Rafael Nadal’s chances at the 2024 Roland Garros.

Novak Djokovic also rates Rafael Nadal as a favorite

Not just his uncle but his nemesis over the years, Novak Djokovic also rated Rafael Nadal as one of the favorites to win the title. The Serbian ace, who will himself be fighting for the Grand Slam title in Paris, has said that since it is Roland Garros, Nadal has to be among the favorites.

Djokovic admitted that there are concerns about Nadal’s fitness and level but despite all the odds, the 37-year-old remains a title favorite for his splendid record at the tournament.

When you talk about Roland Garros and Rafa Nadal is there, for me he is always the big favorite. Obviously, this year is a little different with his level of play, but it is Roland Garros and it is Nadal and, with the respect that we owe him, it is normal to place it as a favorite. Novak Djokovic said. (H/T: Relevo)

It is to be seen how much Nadal lives up to the expectations of everyone. The 22-time Grand Slam champion has not yet confirmed his participation but it looks certain for now. Nadal will be hoping to make this outing a memorable one for himself and his fans.
