Iga Swiatek has accomplished something that many thought was beyond her reach by winning Wimbledon for the first time.

The Polish star arrived at the All England Club fresh off a runner-up finish on grass in Bad Homburg, which marked her first final appearance on the surface.

Swiatek then swept through the Wimbledon draw, dropping just one set along the way to claim victory.

She capped off her run with a historic performance, delivering a 6-0, 6-0 win over Amanda Anisimova in what became the most dominant final in Wimbledon’s Open Era. It was also her first title since lifting the French Open trophy earlier in 2024.

Iga Swiatek grabbed her phone straight after winning Wimbledon to have a laugh with her team

It took less than an hour to decide the 2025 Wimbledon women’s champion. Swiatek hadn’t dropped a game in her final three sets, stretching back to the semi-final against Belinda Bencic.

The Pole played with more freedom and aggression than we’ve seen from her before at Wimbledon, and she was so thrilled with her latest achievement that she even picked up her phone straight after the match.

When asked why, Swiatek explained: “I was checking, I don’t know if I should say, but my speech! There are so many emotions that it’s good to have it written down.”

“Honestly I got so many messages that I have not even replied to even five percent of it. My phone was blowing up! But I just wanted to talk to the team. I think I joked on our group chat.”

Iga Swiatek admits she was surprised to win Wimbledon

Before 2025, Swiatek had never come close to lifting the trophy at Wimbledon. Her best result before this year was a single quarter-final appearance, and she often spoke about not feeling fully comfortable on grass.

Now, after breaking a 13-month title drought with her first grass court victory, even Swiatek admitted she didn’t see it coming.

“I’ve got to say I have to get used to this idea. I never even dreamt of winning Wimbledon,” Swiatek said. “As most of you know I was called a clay court specialist for most of the years of my career.

“So winning on grass for sure feels just super special and it’s a bit of a surprise for me as well. So I’m going to for sure spend the next days just enjoying it, celebrating it, and I need some time to soak everything in.”
