Iga Swiatek is currently without a coach following her split from Wim Fissette.
After losing her opening match in Miami, she decided to make the change.
Swiatek was set to play again in Gliwice, Poland, for the Billie Jean King Cup tie against Ukraine on Friday, April 10.
She has since pulled out of the event, announcing her decision in another statement posted on Instagram.
Swiatek addressed the decision in a statement shared with her followers: “Today I want to share another decision,” Swiatek said. “I will not be playing in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup qualifying tournament in Gliwice.
“This is not an easy decision for me, as playing in Poland has always held and holds special significance for me, and I know that many of you were looking forward to seeing me on the court.
“Recent times have been demanding for me, both in terms of sports and the changes happening around me. I feel that I need a moment to pause, organise certain things, and focus on calm, quality work. I hope you understand.”
The world No 1 also had some supportive words for her teammates ahead of their tie against Ukraine. Poland’s squad features Linda Klimovicova, Katarzyna Kawa, Maja Chwalinska and Magda Linette under captain Dawid Celt.
Katarina Zavatska leads Ukraine’s line-up alongside Daria Snigur, Dayana Yastremska and Lyudmila Samsonova. Lesia Tsurenko withdrew from the team before heading into training camp.
Swiatek has always backed up her words with action when it comes to Team Poland over the years. The Billie Jean King Cup qualification phase is scheduled to take place between April 12 and 13 in Chorzów.
“We have a great team, I am sure that Magda Linette will do a wonderful job leading the girls,” she said. “I am keeping my fingers crossed for the entire squad: Linda Klimovicova, Katarzyna Kawa, Maja Chwalinska, captain Dawid Celt, and the whole team.
“I will be cheering for you with all my heart. Thank you for being so supportive, it really means a lot to me.”
At the moment, Swiatek is set to play at the Stuttgart Open in Germany.
She’s a two-time champion there and will be looking to get her season back on track in familiar surroundings.
The Stuttgart event is a popular stop for top players as they gear up for the WTA 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome. This year, Swiatek will be joined by Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina among others.
Swiatek hasn’t been in top form recently, especially on clay, where she didn’t pick up a single title in 2025. Still, given her past success at this event, she can’t be counted out.
A strong showing could also help her climb back up the rankings after dropping behind Coco Gauff to world number four.
There’s still a chance Swiatek decides not to play in Stuttgart either. The tournament kicks off just after the Billie Jean King Cup tie that she pulled out of, so taking part might not give her much time to regroup.
If she needs a proper break from tennis, skipping another event wouldn’t be too surprising. For now, though, fans are expecting her to take part when the tournament begins on Monday, April 13th.
