'It's possible to catch up with them' - Casper Ruud believes Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are not unbeatable

Despite being the two most dominant players on the ATP Tour at the moment, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner can be defeated when at their prime, says Norwegian tennis star Casper Ruud.

Both Alcaraz and Sinner have won the last seven Grand Slam singles titles, with each man winning one of the last two Majors. Alcaraz came back from two sets to love down to defeat Sinner and win the French Open title, with Sinner getting his revenge a few weeks later when he beat Alcaraz to win his maiden Wimbledon title.

Ruud himself has some experience in Grand Slam finals. The Oslo native has reached three major finals, losing to a younger Alcaraz in the final of the 2022 US Open.

Following a stellar season where he finished runner-up at the French Open, Ruud had the opportunity to clinch the World No.1 ranking were he to defeat Alcaraz in the 2022 US Open final. However, the rising star proved too much, prevailing in a four-set showdown.

Ruud believes the top duo can be beaten

The former World No.2 won his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title at the Madrid Open earlier this year. Both Alcaraz and Sinner were absent at the event, and Ruud used that opportunity to win the biggest title of his career.

However, the 26-year old does not want his title win to be diminished, stating Alcaraz and Sinner are capable of being defeated.

"Now you have two guys who honestly you can say they're also taking it to a little bit of a different level,” said Ruud on The Sit-Down podcast. “But I really still believe that they're catchable, let's say, that it's possible to catch up with them, and they're beatable. Otherwise I don't think I would be here if I didn't believe that you can beat anyone."

Ruud has struggled to find his form during the North American hard court season. The World No.13 fell in the round of 16 to Karen Khachanov at the Canadian Open last week, before losing to Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in his opening round match at this week's Cincinnati Open.
