World No. 5 Jack Draper arrived at the All England Club this summer carrying plenty of momentum and expectations. Seeded fourth, he opened his campaign with a commanding performance against Sebastian Báez, prevailing when his opponent retired early in the third set.

Draper’s bid to break past the second round, however, was halted by former finalist Marin Čilić, who produced a vintage display to beat the Briton 6‑4, 6‑3, 1‑6, 6‑4 on Centre Court.

The loss exposed the challenges Draper has faced on grass, marking his third second‑round exit in Wimbledon appearances.

Just weeks later, Draper confirmed he will miss the National Bank Open in Toronto, citing a left‑arm injury picked up “after Wimbledon.”

In a social‑media post, he described the setback as “nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in Toronto and Cincinnati…. See you in NYC!”

The tournament’s Monday release noted Draper joins a list of withdrawals that includes Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, all sidelined ahead of the July 26 start of the Masters 1000 event.

Draper’s absence reshuffles the Toronto draw. With his current ranking, just one spot shy of his career‑high No. 4 achieved on June 9, he had been slated to face a first‑round opponent fresh off strong hard‑court results, including his maiden ATP 1000 title at Indian Wells in March and a semifinal run at the 2024 US Open.

Tournament officials have slotted alternates Roberto Carballés Baena, Sebastian Ofner, Roman Safiullin, and Aleksandar Kovacevic into the main draw to fill Draper’s vacancy.

Carlos Alcaraz and former champion Alexander Zverev now lead the men’s field in his absence, offering a glimpse of the high‑calibre competition awaiting at this year’s Canadian Open.
