Roger Federer captured a record eight Wimbledon titles over the course of his remarkable career.
Jannik Sinner, now the world number one, picked up his first title at SW19 last year.
The Italian has a long way to go before he can think about breaking Federer’s record, but one tennis legend believes he has what it takes…
Speaking on ‘La Politica Nel Pallone’, Ion Tiriac, former Madrid Open director and Davis Cup finalist, shared his thoughts on the Italian’s potential.
“Economically, [Jannik] Sinner is worth at least 100 million euros a year, more than double that of a footballer,” he said.
“In my opinion, Wimbledon [is the Slam he will win most]. He can aspire to beat Roger Federer’s record of eight titles.”
Sinner certainly made a statement last year at the All England Club, taking down two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Still, it feels a bit early to talk about breaking Federer’s record.
That mark once seemed untouchable outside of Novak Djokovic.
Tiriac isn’t just expecting big things from Sinner at Wimbledon either. He thinks the Italian could reach 20+ Grand Slams too…
The Romanian told Radio Anch’io Sport: “He can easily reach over 20 [Slams]. What he simply needs is someone to help him with his planning.”
Sinner faces a long road ahead if he’s going to surpass Federer’s Wimbledon total, but he’s already managed something the Swiss great never did.
The Italian has started 2026 by winning the first three Masters 1000 events of the season.
Federer, for all his success, never managed to put together a streak of four straight Masters 1000 titles.
Sinner closed out 2025 by winning in Paris and will be aiming to add to that run when he returns.
The Madrid Open gets underway on Wednesday, April 22nd.
