Jannik Sinner Chasing Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Murray's Historic Win Streaks

Jannik Sinner might be one of the newer faces in tennis, but he’s wasting no time making his mark on the sport’s history. Fresh off his first Wimbledon crown where he put on an absolute clinic in the final, the Italian star now has his sights set on the Cincinnati Masters. His form on hard courts has been nothing short of electric, but there’s something even bigger at play here.

Sinner’s current run is inching him closer to joining an elite club that only Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray have managed to enter this century.

Tennis journalist José Morgado pointed out that Sinner is now riding a 22-match win streak on hard courts and that’s some pretty exclusive company. In fact, only a handful of players this century have done better: Roger Federer with streaks of 56, 36 and 26 matches, Novak Djokovic with runs of 35, 29, 26 and 23, Andy Murray with 28 and Rafael Nadal with 26. And yep… that’s the whole list. Four more wins puts Sinner in some extremely elite company.

Jannik Sinner Battles Through Fire Alarms at Cincinnati Masters

Sinner had anything but a normal day at the Cincinnati Open, but the world No. 1 still found a way to get the job done. Taking on Canada’s Gabriel Diallo in the third round, Sinner had to deal with more than just big serves; a fire alarm went off mid-match, lights flashing and all, in just the second game of the second set. After a brief delay, both players agreed to push through, and Sinner kept his cool to win 6-2, 7-6 (6) and move into the last 16.

It wasn’t the only disruption; the match actually started late thanks to a 75-minute power outage that knocked out TV coverage and electronic line calling.

Even after getting broken in his first service game, Sinner stormed back with three straight breaks to take the first set. The second set was a tighter battle, staying on serve until the tiebreak, where Sinner edged it out. Up next? French qualifier Adrian Mannarino, as Sinner keeps building momentum ahead of the U.S. Open.
