Jannik Sinner will commence his Wimbledon campaign against compatriot Luca Nardi on Tuesday. Ahead of the grass-court Grand Slam, the World No. 1 addressed the press on a variety of topics. One of which, included his recent collaboration with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.
Sinner collaborated with maestro Bocelli for a duet titled ‘Polvere e Gloria’ (Dust and Glory), which was released on 20th June. This composition is a beautiful and allegorical conversation between the two Italian stars, that focuses on their values. While Bocelli sings in Italian in this piece, Sinner shares some valuable words in English. Speaking about the collaboration, Sinner remarked:
I’ve been planning this for a while, and it was during the three months when I couldn’t play. It was the ideal moment to record the video together because there was more time. He’s an incredible artist, and being part of that song as well. It was an honor for me, and it all turned out very well, so I want to congratulate him and his team for the work. Besides being a great person, he treated me very well.
Its accompanying video features picturesque scenes from Sinner and Bocelli recording the duet at the latter’s studio in Tuscany as well as snippets from the pair’s childhoods. Sinner’s childhood photos included ones with his parents, his skiing days, and one with a fox plushie- the animal that later became his symbol.
At the press conference, Jannik Sinner addressed a surprising change made ahead of the Wimbledon Championships. The 23-year-old ended his partnership with Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio, his fitness trainer and physiotherapist respectively.
There hasn’t been any craziness. Basically, I wanted to make some changes in my team after Halle because that’s how I felt it had to be. It hasn’t affected me, I’m ready to compete. We worked well together, and I’m very grateful for everything, but I felt I needed something different. This was my case, and there’s nothing more to it.
Panichi and Badio had been part of the Italian’s team since September 2024 and helped him to clinch this season’s Australian Open to take his career Grand Slam haul to three. The split has stirred quite a buzz in the tennis world, considering his past record with his team, especially during his doping scandal which was attributed to a spray used by his then physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi.
The medication was purchased by his then fitness coach, Umberto Ferrara. Sinner parted ways with Naldi and Ferrara last year after the doping controversy came to limelight.
Jannik Sinner will be looking to improve upon his Wimbledon record, where he had his best run in 2023 reaching the semifinals. He reached his first Grand Slam final outside of a hard court, last month at the Roland Garros where he put up an incredible performance albeit losing to defending-champion Carlos Alcaraz.
The heartbreak in Paris persisted for a few days, causing some sleepless nights. The beginning of Sinner’s grass swing was also not very promising as he failed to defend his Halle Open title with an early exit after losing to eventual champion Alexander Bublik .
