Jannik Sinner claimed the victory against Alex de Miñaur with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and is in the China Open final for the third consecutive year. The World No. 2 had to work hard against a resistant De Miñaur, who even managed to steal a set, but once again fell short against the Italian's game.

Sinner continues to perform at a truly extraordinary level, despite conceding a set. The Italian reaches his 7th final of the season and registers his 41st victory in 2025—also winning 22 of the last 24 matches he has played. Since winning the Shanghai Masters title in 2024—nearly a year ago—Sinner holds an incredible 36-2 record on hardcourts.

Sinner led the previous head-to-head (H2H) 10-0, with De Miñaur having won only one set—back in 2020. The Australian had advanced from the quarterfinals after the retirement of Jakub Mensik due to injury—after only a few games played—while Sinner had just overcome a tricky Fábián Marozsan in straight sets.

Sinner's impeccable serve seals the first set with a break

In the first set, Sinner's serve was impeccable, with 71% first serves in, winning 82% of those points, significantly higher than De Miñaur's 53% first-serve points won effectiveness. De Miñaur had a weak service game mid-set, and Sinner capitalized with a break to love that gave him the advantage.

The Australian quickly earned a couple of break opportunities in the following game, but he couldn't convert them. Sinner ended up taking the set without giving his opponent a chance for a return, winning 6-3 after 40 minutes.

De Minaur finally steals a set, saving four break points

The second set began with both players winning their service games to love, but quickly, in the third game, De Miñaur was already struggling with break points against him again, which he managed to fend off. It was a set marked by opportunities for both players, thanks to De Miñaur's great effectiveness in attacking his opponent's second serves—in addition to the consistency of both in critical moments.

De Miñaur managed to stay ahead and even seemed closer to the break himself. The Aussie had already saved four break points against him. The tension grew when De Miñaur earned his 7th break chance—which was also a set point—and he finally managed to take the set 6-4. De Miñaur claimed the set, marking only the second time he had won a set against Sinner in 11 meetings.

Sinner delivers crushing third set to secure final berth

Just when it seemed De Miñaur might have a chance in the match, he had a disappointing start to the third set, with Sinner taking an opening break to love and then saving up to three break points against him to lead 2-0. The difference grew even larger when Sinner secured a second consecutive break and, with his serve, surged ahead to a commanding 4-0 lead.

De Miñaur had won barely 1 of 9 points on his serve in the set and watched as Sinner constantly connected on his first serves, making it difficult for the Australian to even put the ball in play for long rallies. Sinner showed his class and held onto his serve until the end of the match, closing the victory 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and advancing to the China Open final, where he still awaits his opponent between Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien.
