Alcaraz continued his unbeaten run at the ATP Finals with a win over Lorenzo Musetti, which also secured his place in the knockout stages.

The Spaniard has now locked up the year-end number one spot for the second time in his career, and even if Jannik Sinner wins the ATP Finals, he still won’t be able to catch Alcaraz in the rankings.

Despite their rivalry, Alcaraz and Sinner get along well away from the court. And after Alcaraz’s achievement, Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill had a message for him.

Sinner’s team took the outcome in stride, congratulating Alcaraz on his accomplishment. Cahill posted a message to Instagram after Alcaraz claimed the top spot, acknowledging his achievement. “Big congrats to Carlos Alcaraz and your entire team. An amazing effort,” Cahill wrote on an Instagram Story.

Alcaraz and Sinner have traded the number one ranking back and forth throughout the year. The Spaniard first reclaimed it by beating Sinner in the US Open final.

Even though Sinner took it back with a win at the Paris Masters, Alcaraz has now locked up the year-end top spot heading into 2026.

This isn’t unfamiliar territory for him either. He finished on top of the ATP rankings back in 2022, becoming the youngest player ever to hold that position at season’s end.

Alcaraz sealed a straight-sets win over Musetti to take the world number one ranking and also advance to the knockout stages, finishing top of his group.

It marks just his second time reaching this stage of the ATP Finals, having first qualified in 2025. Alcaraz marked the occasion with a short post on social media shortly after leaving the court in Turin.

“This is what you could call a perfect night! Semi-finals in Turin and year-end number one,” wrote Alcaraz.

His run will continue into Friday, where he’ll face either Daniil Medvedev or Alex de Minaur in the semi-finals. The draw will be confirmed following Thursday’s final round-robin matches.
