Jelena Ostapenko missed the chance to become the new World No. 1 in women's doubles for the first time in her career, following her defeat in the Wimbledon doubles final. The Latvian teamed up with Hsieh Su-wei but ultimately fell to Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens.
Another women's doubles final unfolded before the men's singles final. In a match that featured a great comeback in the third set, Mertens, alongside Kudermetova, claimed the title, their first major title as a partnership. It is the Belgian's 4th Slam in doubles and the Russian's first.
The match was decided with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, featuring a notable comeback by Kudermetova and Mertens, who rallied from 2-4 down in the third set to win four consecutive games and close out the victory. The Latvian Ostapenko had her own distinct possibility, as she had the chance to lift her second Grand Slam doubles title and reach the World No. 1 ranking in the category. However, for now, it will remain an unfulfilled goal for the former French Open singles champion.

With this result, the duo of Katerina Siniakova (No. 1) and Taylor Townsend (No. 2) retain their top spots in the ranking. The multi-Slam champion duo had previously lost in the semifinals precisely to Ostapenko and Hsieh, who now stand as World No. 3 and No. 12 respectively in the doubles ranking.
