John McEnroe has gone viral plenty of times during the 2025 US Open due to his unpredictable commentary.
McEnroe, 66, has been with ESPN since 2009. The former No. 1 ranked singles and doubles player won 77 titles during his career, so the Worldwide Leader In Sports was thrilled to add him to their team. Over the past few years, however, the four-time US Open champion has received criticism for being a bit harsh with his remarks about certain players, including six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek.
During Tuesday night's semifinal between Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz, the longtime ESPN broadcaster made headlines for a remark he made about NBA commissioner Adam Silver.
As ESPN's cameras were locked in on Silver, play-by-play broadcaster Chris Fowler said, "He's got to be excited about the new 11-year deal with the NBA. It'll run until the middle 2030s."
That comment led to McEnroe revealing that he's neighbors with Silver.
"That's why he's sitting all high and mighty," McEnroe said. "Adam is in my building. I see him fairly often."
Thankfully, McEnroe didn't share where exactly he and Silver live. That would've been a bit ridiculous.

Throughout the 2025 US Open, fans have complained about McEnroe's commentary. Some have even called for him to lose his job.
"Over the last few years, I’ve become an avid observer of TV tennis. Of late, though, I’ve resorted to the mute button more and more. Even when John McEnroe is educating us mouthful upon mouthful of nonstop irrelevant commentary," sports writer Peter Vecsey said.
"I was so mad at John McEnroe and Chris Fowler on ESPN they were rooting for Fritz and they didn’t hide it! So pathetic," one person commented.
"Please no more John McEnroe. Unprepared. No analysis. Master of the obvious and inane hyperbole. He actually ruins matches," another person wrote.
ESPN hasn't shown any indication that it's ready to move on from McEnroe.
In fact, McEnroe is expected to call Friday's semifinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. Hopefully, he doesn't
