All About Learner Tien’s Ethnicity and Background

Learner Tien is of Chinese-Vietnamese (Hoa) heritage and is a second-generation American tennis player.

His parents, Khuong Dan and Huyen Tien, were born in Vietnam before immigrating to the United States as refugees following the Vietnam War.

Tien’s parents are part of the Hoa minority, a community of ethnic Chinese people with longstanding cultural roots in Vietnam. As a result, Tien has both Chinese ethnic heritage and Vietnamese family roots.

Tien himself was born in Irvine, California, and grew up in Southern California. He began playing tennis at a young age and was coached by his father, who played an important role in his early development.
