Manifesting it: Zheng Qinwen gets wish after previously picking Jack Draper as dream doubles partner
Xinhua

With the announcement of the teams for the US Open mixed doubles garnering much excitement, it seems a certain Zheng Qinwen was manifesting her partner for a while after it was confirmed that she would be teaming with Jack Draper.

Qinwen was asked to name an ideal celebrity doubles partner in April and instead of naming one from the world of film or tv for instance, she was more practical and named a fellow tennis pro.

"Actually...Jack Draper," said Zheng when asked to pick which celebrity she would choose as her doubles partner as part of a video with JW Marriott Marquis Miami.

In the same video, Carlos Alcaraz who will team with Emma Raducanu which is perhaps the most intriguing team of all had a different tact albeit it wouldn't be mixed doubles if he picked Kevin Hart who he said in his part. While Belinda Bencic who teams with Alexander Zverev said Liam Hemsworth.

But while Zheng might have been manifesting it, it may also have been a done deal at that point. For instance Taylor Fritz and Elena Rybakina have long been confirmed to team.

They played Tie Break Tens together and Fritz said at the time that he would ask Elena and her team to play at the US Open. Lo and behold they have. Other teams such as Andreeva and Medvedev have experience from World Tennis League, Djokovic and Danilovic have played United Cup together as well.

While Tsitsipas and Badosa of course are a couple off the court and represent that side of it. Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter for instance are not involved.

A real dream team feel to this tournament and given Zheng wanted to play with Draper, could it be one to savour? Time will tell with Zheng in particular having minimal doubles experience. But only really Errani and Vavassori have any type of experience in the field.
