Mirra Andreeva's impeccable form rolls on, Linda Noskova no match in Rome
IPA

Mirra Andreeva overcame Linda Noskova with a resounding 6-1, 7-5 and advanced to the 4th round of the Rome Open. The Russian teenager continues her impeccable form after defeating the resilient 20-year-old star Noskova.

Andreeva reaches the Round of 16 of a WTA 1000 for the third time this season – having won the title in the previous two in Dubai and Indian Wells. The Russian prepares to face Clara Tauson, precisely her opponent in the Dubai final, who comes from surprising the 10th seed Emma Navarro.

First Set

The first set began with Noskova holding her service game and Andreeva quickly responding without problems. However, little by little, the Russian began to trouble her opponent, securing the break on her 4th chance of the third game. With the advantage in her favor, Andreeva looked more comfortable on the court and took absolute control of a set that started evenly.

Noskova found no way to turn things around, winning just 50% of the points on her first serve and 33% on her second, ending up conceding her serve three consecutive times, giving Andreeva a straightforward set 6-1 after 28 minutes, having won 6 consecutive games and conceding only four points on her serve.

Second Set

In the second set, Noskova seemed to regain her rhythm in the match after holding her first service game and then creating a couple of break point opportunities in her favor. The Czech took the break and moved ahead 3-1 on her serve. The Czech seemed closer to securing another break than Andreeva was to recovering, while struggling with her first serve.

However, Andreeva managed to come back from a 2-4 deficit, winning three consecutive games and taking a 5-4 lead. Noskova faced the pressure on her serve to stay alive in the set and managed to level things. Everything seemed to be heading for a tie-break, but the Czech committed a couple of unforced backhand errors that ended up costing her the match.

The Russian secured the victory 6-1, 7-5 and advanced to the Round of 16, where she will face Clara Tauson. Their two previous matches took place this year, first in the final of the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships (7-6, 6-1 in Andreeva's favor) and a couple of weeks later in the third round of Indian Wells (6-3, 6-0 victory for Andreeva), where again the Russian ended up winning the title.
