Missed payments bite: Tommy Paul's off-court bills cause truck trouble
IPA

Tommy Paul acknowledged a particular situation with his truck after his qualification for the semifinals of the Rome Open. The American reached the semifinals of the tournament for the second consecutive year and the fourth time in a Masters 1000 so far after defeating Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(4), 6-3.

The world No. 12 had the difficult task of defending the points he earned in 2024 and achieved it in style, having only dropped one set so far in the tournament. Now he is just one win away from returning to the top-10 and will seek his first Masters final this Friday against Jannik Sinner or Casper Ruud.

After the match against the Polish player Hurkacz, Paul spoke about the difficult week he had, although due to a peculiar personal situation. The American forgot the payments for his truck, leading to a stressful situation beyond his performance on the court. “It’s been a stressful week. I got my truck repossessed,” he said after the match.

“I missed a couple of payments and they took my truck from my house,” he explained. “If you know me that’s my baby. I got my trainer to go pick it up today “.

Unlike other big sports stars, Tommy Paul has repeatedly expressed his love for activities away from the public spotlight. His cars, trucks, or fishing are some of his main hobbies, so the situation with his truck has the American No. 2 far from happy.

For now, his main focus must be on the upcoming semifinals of the Rome Open this Friday, where he will seek to reach his first final of the season, and the most important of his career. Paul awaits the winner between Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud, a match that will be played on the afternoon of this Thursday, May 15th.
