Fans of tennis star Naomi Osaka will get a closer look at the Japanese superstar's comeback after giving birth, as a documentary centered around Osaka's return has been scheduled for release this summer.
Titled "The Second Set", the documentary will capture Osaka's journey as she picks up her racket after giving birth to her first child, Shai, in July 2023. The film will take a closer look at Osaka's life as she navigates between being a first-time mother and returning to life as a professional athlete.
Set to be released in August 2025, 'The Second Set' has been picked up by Tubi, an American streaming television service owned by Fox Corporation.
"This film is special to me because I’ve learned so much about life through Shai and she brings me so much joy," said Osaka in a released statement. " I’ll always look fondly on this period of our lives."
The Second Set is produced by Nike, with whom the four-time Grand Slam champion has a running shoes and clothing line. Also producing is Hana Kuma, Osaka’s media and production company founded in 2022 along with business partner Stuart Duguid, and in partnership with The SpringHill Company.
Osaka has struggled to return to form following the birth of her child, reaching the final at the ASB Classic in January before retiring due to injury after winning the first set. The 27-year old did win a WTA 125K title in Saint Malo in May, but fell in her opening round match against Liudmila Samsonova at the ongoing Berlin Ladies Open.
