Nick Kyrgios has dissected the potential matchup of Swiss tennis great Roger Federer with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The Australian tennis star, who has beaten Federer once in his career, believes that the Swiss man would have made Sinner uncomfortable if they had crossed paths.

However, Kyrgios believes that Alcaraz may have gotten the better of the 20-time Grand Slam champion. The duo of Sinner and Alcaraz didn’t play Federer as they rose to prominence when the star of the Swiss icon was waning after 2021. Kyrgios said on the sidelines of the UTS:

It’s hard to say, maybe because I’m getting older too, I think they (Alcaraz, Sinner) will eventually surpass them, but not now. The best Federer that year (2017), when he won Indian Wells, Miami, the Australian Open. That year, I don’t think so. The slice. I think Federer would play very well against Sinner with his slices and bring him forward, he would make him uncomfortable…I think Alcaraz would maybe beat Federer. I don’t know what it is. It’s hard for me to say they are better right now, or maybe I don’t want to.

Alcaraz rose to prominence in 2022, when he won the US Open and became World No.1 for the first time. However, at the same time, Federer grabbed the headlines by ending his 24-year career at the Laver Cup. Alcaraz and Federer also met each other recently at Roland Garros during Rafael Nadal’s tribute ceremony. However, the Swiss man hasn’t been seen interacting with Sinner recently.

Nick Kyrgios set to play the US Open

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has used his protected ranking to enter the main draw of the upcoming US Open, scheduled from August 24 to September 7. After battling injuries for more than two years, Kyrgios is hoping for a strong return.

He began this season with a comeback but was forced to withdraw from doubles at the French Open due to a knee issue. The 30-year-old also missed Wimbledon for the third straight year following another injury setback. His career was seriously threatened in 2023 after a torn wrist ligament required surgery and kept him out of action for over a year.

In January, he made his return at the Australian Open but was beaten in the first round by Britain’s Jacob Fearnley. After the match, Kyrgios admitted it might have been his final singles appearance at Melbourne Park. He later withdrew from Indian Wells in March due to wrist pain, leaving the court in tears.

However, he did manage a singles win in Miami that same month, defeating Mackenzie McDonald. That match remains his most recent competitive outing. Now also working as a TV analyst, Kyrgios is expected to partner Gael Monfils in doubles at the ATP 500 event in Washington from July 29 to August 4. He will also compete in singles there using his protected ranking.

Carlos Alcaraz stuns with gesture to Kate Middleton

Carlos Alcaraz, a standout young talent in the tennis world, has recently drawn widespread attention. His performance at Wimbledon 2025, though not ending in victory, was marked by remarkable skill and composure. Many have praised his conduct throughout the tournament, especially during the final match.

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, was also in attendance at the event. She arrived with her family and took part in the award ceremony. Though her appearance was not announced ahead of time, she carried out her royal duties with poise and grace.

A memorable moment came when Alcaraz stepped forward to receive his runner-up trophy. He bowed respectfully to Princess Kate, a gesture that left a lasting impression. Despite the loss, he showed dignity and humility.

This simple act of respect quickly spread across social media. Fans and commentators alike applauded his behavior. One user described it as “a moment full of grace and humility.” For many, Alcaraz proved he is a champion both on and off the court.
