Nick Kyrgios appeared unimpressed by Jannik Sinner ’s recent Wimbledon win. After Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz in four sets in the final, Kyrgios posted a single asterisk on X. The vague message sparked speculation and stirred conversation among tennis fans.

Many believe Kyrgios was implying doubt about the legitimacy of Sinner’s victory. This comes in light of Sinner’s past suspension after testing positive for clostebol, a banned substance. The Italian served a three-month ban from February to early May 2024 as part of a settlement with the World Doping Agency.

Sinner has since returned to competition and reclaimed his place as world No. 1. Despite the earlier controversy, he went on to win Wimbledon, adding a fourth Grand Slam title to his name. However, the shadow of his suspension continues to attract criticism from some in the sport.

Iga Swiatek, who won the women’s title at Wimbledon with a dominant performance over Amanda Anisimova, also faced a brief doping suspension. She tested positive for trimetazidine and was banned for a month in 2024. Both players have since returned, but discussions about their past infractions remain part of the public conversation.

Prize money earned by Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon

World No.1 Jannik Sinner has made significant progress on the all-time prize money list following his Wimbledon victory. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz in four sets to claim his first title at the All England Club, becoming the first Italian to do so. This marked his fourth Grand Slam title, with only the French Open left for him to complete a Career Grand Slam.

His Wimbledon win earned him a record £3,000,000, the same as women’s champion Iga Swiatek. This boosted Sinner’s career earnings to $45,613,926, pushing him past Pete Sampras, who earned $43,280,489 in his career. Despite his legendary 14 Grand Slam titles, Sampras now ranks below Sinner in prize money.

Carlos Alcaraz, the runner-up at Wimbledon, earned just over $2,000,000. This took his total career earnings to $47,327,764, moving him ahead of Daniil Medvedev and placing him sixth on the all-time list. The top spots are still held by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray.

Sinner and Alcaraz are expected to climb even higher as they continue their careers. With prize money increasing year by year, both are on track to surpass the $100 million mark. These totals do not include endorsements, where both players have major deals with Nike. Sinner also has partnerships with Gucci, Rolex, Lavazza, and Head.

Jannik Sinner joins elusive Grand Slam club

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner made history as the first Italian to win the Wimbledon title, but his achievements go further. By reaching the final, he became only the 11th man in the Open Era to appear in all four Grand Slam finals. Sinner has already claimed titles at the Australian Open and US Open in 2024, defended his Australian crown in 2025, and recently reached his first French Open final before triumphing at Wimbledon against Carlos Alcaraz.

He joins a prestigious list of tennis legends. Rod Laver was the first to reach all four Slam finals in the Open Era, also completing a ‘Calendar Slam’ in 1969. Ken Rosewall also achieved the feat, reaching multiple finals though never winning Wimbledon. Ivan Lendl reached 19 Slam finals, winning eight, but fell short at Wimbledon. Stefan Edberg won six majors and was runner-up at the French Open, completing his set of Slam finals in 1989.

Jim Courier became the youngest player in the Open Era to reach all four Grand Slam finals, completing the set by age 22. Andre Agassi followed, becoming just the second man in the Open Era to win each major. Roger Federer later achieved the same, winning 20 Grand Slam titles overall. Rafael Nadal, with his dominance on clay and strong performances on other surfaces, also reached all four finals and won each at least twice.

Novak Djokovic leads the list with 24 Grand Slam titles and finals at every major multiple times. Andy Murray, while winning three Slams, also reached the final of each Grand Slam, including five in Australia and one in Paris. Now, Sinner adds his name to this elite group, showing he belongs among the sport’s most versatile and accomplished players.
