Nick Kyrgios Reopens Jannik Sinner Feud
- Jannik Sinner celebrates after defeating Taylor Fritz in the men's singles final of the 2024 U.S. Open tennis tournament at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York on Sept. 8, 2024.

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has once again launched a barrage of attacks on World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Australian has never been afraid to share his opinion on the Italian and the misconduct regarding his doping scandal. Sinner tested positive for clostebol twice in March last year, and the news got leaked into the press in August.

Sinner was allowed to play the US Open last year and the Australian Open this year, both were won by the Italian. However, this resulted in immense backlash from former and current tennis players. Kyrgios and Stanislas Wawrinka were the biggest examples of criticism directed at the Italian tennis star. Kyrgios believes that the Italian should have been treated the same way as Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep, who got banned for more than a year.

What Has Nick Kyrgios Said About Jannik Sinner?

According to the reports, Kyrgios has once again attacked Sinner verbally. As per the reports from Motorcycle Sports, the Australian said, “Do you really believe he’s going to hire a physiotherapist who carries a scalpel without a cover in his bag, accidentally cuts himself with it, and then gives him a massage without protection?”

It should be noted that Sinner is not the only player who has tested positive for doping recently. Australian doubles champion Marc Russell was recently banned for 18 months. Moreover, Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek was banned for a month as she tested positive for trimetazidine (TMZ). This substance is used to treat heart conditions, and Swiatek used it during jet lag.

Sinner didn’t receive a ban initially but agreed to a three-month suspension as part of the agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Kyrgios also criticized the three-month suspension, believing the World No. 1 should have been punished more. Sinner returned to action in May at the Italian Open, reaching the final and losing to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets.

Final Thoughts

Kyrgios’s criticism of Sinner doesn’t seem to be ending. It was only at the 2024 Australian Open that the Australian publicly demanded that the Italian coach him so he could win a Grand Slam. Now, the bridges are beyond burned, and the relationship between the two doesn’t look like it’s improving anytime soon. Meanwhile, the storyline comes to a head at the 2025 French Open. Both of these tennis stars will be competing at the event.
