Nick Kyrgios left a cryptic message about the Wimbledon final after Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz to claim his 4th Grand Slam title. The Australian has been a consistent critic of the World No. 1 since the doping controversy came to light in August 2024.
Criticism regarding Sinner's doping case has surfaced multiple times in the tennis world, but no one has been as outspoken as Kyrgios. The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up has repeatedly voiced his disagreement with how the four-time Grand Slam champion's case was resolved.
It's worth remembering that Sinner was initially cleared without a suspension, as it was proven he suffered accidental contamination. Shortly after, WADA announced an appeal, demanding a suspension of 1 to 2 years for the Italian, though this never materialized. A few weeks before the appeal hearing, Sinner reached an agreement with WADA for a three-month suspension, concluding the case with his return to the courts in May during the Rome Open.
When it became known that Sinner would only receive a three-month suspension, Kyrgios was one of the first to publicly express his disapproval. “So wada come out and say it would be a 1-2 year ban. Obviously sinners team have done everything in their power to just go ahead and take a 3 month ban, no titles lost, no prize money lost. Guilty or not? Sad day for tennis. Fairness in tennis does not exist.”
Since then, Kyrgios has seized several opportunities to launch criticisms at the player, questioning whether it was truly accidental contamination and criticizing the process by which everything was resolved, suggesting that other players have not received the same treatment as Sinner.
Immediately after the match, Kyrgios posted a couple of messages on social media, which many interpreted as a new attack against Sinner. “Wimby wrapped up ☘️ REPLY with 1 word on how we feel about it ♂️”
