After three months away from the tour due to doping suspension, Jannik Sinner made a powerful comeback going all the way to the Rome Open finals. In the end, it was Carlos Alcaraz who finished as the new champion, but the Italian left Foro Italico with good sensations.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz finished yet another exciting chapter in their intense rivalry at the Rome Open. For both players, facing each other means being pushed to take their game to another level, as the Italian and the Spaniard left it clear in their post game press conference. For Sinner it was hard to be defeated once again by Alcaraz, however the world No. 1 seemed to be in a good place, calmed and relaxed, with great expectations moving forward to Roland Garros:
"After three months, coming here and making this result means a lot to me, a lot to my team also. We worked a lot to be here, so I'm happy also with my family and everything. For sure it's a good lesson for Paris.
"I'm closer than expected in a way of everything, but in another way it was good. It was a great week for me. Some matches incredibly well, some matches could be better, but this is tennis. It's a lot of ups and downs, but everything together it was a good tournament.
When asked about the match and if he would change something, the three-time Grand Slam champion answered: "Some choices at times. If I would go back, I would play a couple of points in a different way. I'm lacking some matches. There are no excuses though. But if I would play them again, I would play them in different ways."
Finally, the Italian shared how his approach will be to arrive Paris in the best way possible:
"It's good. I played the maximum of matches here in Rome, which is very good. Now I have one week off, which for me is good also, a couple of days to switch off mentally, and then being ready for an even more important tournament, " he concluded.
