The legendary Novak Djokovic has recently announced that Dusan Vemic will join his team for the upcoming Roland Garros, following the recent end of his coaching partnership with Andy Murray. The split between the two tennis legends came after nearly four months working together, a period in which Nole struggled to regain his top form once the Australian Open's semifinals.
The 48-year-old Vemic, is a former professional tennis player who also competed at the French Open during his career. He has previously worked with Djokovic's team and will now support him alongside assistant coach and analyst Boris Bosnjakovic. Novak revealed this update during his recent press conference at the Geneva Open, where he'll be making his debut tomorrow against Marton Fucsovics.
Despite this announcement, the 24-time Grand Slam winner champion emphasized that Vemic won't be his permanent coach. He made it clear that he is not rushing into any long term coaching decisions, feeling comfortable with the team supporting him right now.
"I don't need to rush in any context. I feel comfortable with the people around me... in the next few tournaments, and we'll see what happens."
This cautious approach reflects Djokovic's desire to carefully evaluate his options as he's now keen to improve his performance on clay courts. The serbian hasn't won a single matchup during this European swing yet, and expects to change that tomorrow against the Hungarian.
Former world's No. 1 had a decepointing debut at home in Monte-carlo, losing in straight sets against Chile's Alejandro Tabilo 6-3, 6-4, and again in Madrid, where was defeated by Matteo Arnaldi by the same score.
With Roland Garros approaching, all eyes will be on Djokovic to see if this new coaching setup will improve his performance on the red clay.
