Novak Djokovic’s ex-coach Goran Ivanisevic recently revealed that the Serbian icon is the favorite to win the Wimbledon Championships, above his rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. However, the 38-year-old has now admitted that he doesn’t see himself as a favorite to win the All England Club title despite being the seven-time champion.

Djokovic is seeking to win his 25th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon as he hopes to become the first player in the Open Era to reach that tally. He’s currently tied with Margaret Court with 24 major titles. He has been seeking that milestone title since winning the 2023 US Open.

Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated Grand Slam events since then, sharing the last six titles equally among each other. In fact, this season, Sinner claimed the Australian Open title after beating Alexander Zverev in the final, while Alcaraz claimed his first of the year at the French Open, beating the Italian star in a thrilling five-set final.

Alcaraz is the defending champion of Wimbledon and has won the title two consecutive times. On the other hand, Sinner has never been to the tournament’s final. Currently, Alcaraz is the favorite to win the title for the third time as he’s yet to lose a match on grass this season.

Goran Ivanisevic revealed during an interview that he believes Djokovic will win Wimbledon because of his experience at the tournament. The Croatian coach also acknowledged that Djokovic has finished as runners-up two consecutive times and must have learnt from his past mistakes. But Djokovic doesn’t view himself that way, During his press conference at SW19, he admitted that Sinner and Alcaraz remain favorites to win it:

I love Goran, and I’m glad he loves me, but I don’t think I’m a favorite against them right now. I think they are, both of them. But perhaps I have my best chance here against them probably, yes. If I have to face one or both of them, which I hope, it would mean reaching the tattoo final, so yes, obviously I’ll seek my best game to win. I think I have chances…This year, I’ve played really good tennis.

Also, Djokovic has reached the final of Wimbledon every year since 2018. The Serbian legend has become an irresistible force at the tournament but he’s projected to face Sinner in the semi-finals. That was the same stage where he met the Italian star at the French Open last month and lost to him in straight sets.

Novak Djokovic overcomes Alex de Minaur to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic rallied from behind to get past Alex de Minaur in the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships. Djokovic lost the first set as he took time to find his rhythm but when he finally did, he was just miles above the Australian star, winning 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the 16th time.

After the match, Djokovic revealed that he didn’t start the match as he had supposed to have done and needed time to reset before finding a solution to de Minaur’s tactics on the court:

I am still trying to process the whole match and what happened on court. It wasn’t a great start for me, it was a great start for him. He broke my serve three times in the first set. Very windy, swirly conditions on the court. He was just managing better with the play from the back of the court. I didn’t have many solutions but I managed to reset myself. It was kind of a tough game to close out the second set.

Djokovic will now face Flavio Cobolli next as he aims to reach the semi-finals of Wimbledon. The 38-year-old holds a 1-0 lead over the Italian star and won their only meeting at the 2024 Shanghai Masters 6-1, 6-2.
