Novak Djokovic injured before Australian Open! Fear looms large for Nole fam at United Cup 2024
Xinhua

Novak Djokovic suffered a concerning wrist injury ahead of the United Cup tie between Serbia and the Czech Republic. His team attended to him quickly, and the Serb decided to proceed with the singles match against Jiri Lehecka in Perth, but fans are concerned about the seriousness of the problem. There has been no update yet about the injury from the Serb or his team.

The 24-time singles Grand Slam champion has been pretty injury-free throughout his career. He had only one elbow surgery back in 2018. However, it is something that he will definitely like to forget, as what followed was hands-down the worst phase of Djokovic’s career.

The Serb made an early comeback but suffered from horrible form. He was losing back-to-back matches and almost retired from tennis entirely. It was then that his family convinced him to take up the racket again, and the rest is history.

Given the fact that the Australian Open will kick off within two weeks, the news of the injury has scared Djokovic’s fans even more. The Serb is in sensational form and had a great campaign in 2023.

Djokovic won three out of the four Grand Slam events (Australian Open, French Open, and US Open), was the runner-up in the other (Wimbledon), and won 7 trophies in total. He also ended the year as the World No. 1.

Nole decided to play the singles match against Jiri Lehecka in the tie between Serbia and the Czech Republic, which is kind of a sigh of relief. It hints that the injury is not that serious; otherwise, the Serb would have withdrawn as the Australian Open is his primary concern right now. He will probably give an update on the same once his match against Lehecka is complete.

Novak Djokovic looks to take Serbia to the knockouts of the United Cup

A win against the Czech Republic will confirm Serbia’s place in the knockout stages of the United Cup. They have been placed in Group E (Perth) alongside China and the Czech Republic and they have already won their tie against China.

Apart from the match between Djokovic and Lehecka, Marketa Vondrousova will take on Olga Danilovic. Moreover, the team of Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic will take on Miriam Kolodziejova and Petr Nouza in a doubles match.

Djokovic, Vondrousova and Djokovic/Danilovic are the predicted winners of these matches, respectively. Thus, it should be an easy win for Serbia, with which they will qualify for the knockouts. Once the United Cup is over, Nole will shift his focus completely to the 2024 Australian Open.
