Novak Djokovic will miss the Paris Masters for the second consecutive year, with the seven-time champion opting to take a break following the Shanghai Masters and the Six Kings Slam.
The 38-year-old has been dealing with various physical issues, making his absence from the final Masters 1000 event of the year not unexpected. However, he is still scheduled to compete in the Hellenic Championship (ATP 250 in Athens) from November 2 to 8. Nevertheless, his participation in the ATP Finals in Turin remains uncertain, despite qualifying for the 18th time. This end-of-season tournament is set to take place from November 9 to 16.
The Serbian has been hoping to capture his 41st Masters 1000 title since winning in Paris two years ago. This year, he narrowly lost in the Miami Open final to Jakub Mensik, going through two tie-breaks.
Recently, he reached the semifinals in Shanghai, making history as the oldest semifinalist in the series in an exhausting campaign that took a toll on the veteran’s body.
He overcame four opponents on his way to the semifinals, grappling with physical setbacks before losing to Valentin Vacherot in straight sets. Djokovic aims to recover in time for the events in Athens and Turin.
Two years ago, the Serb captured his seventh Paris trophy after defeating Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets. Although he spent nearly nine hours on the court leading up to the final. However, he managed to deliver his best performance for the title match and secured his 40th trophy at that level.
The Paris Masters 1000 tournament takes place from October 27th to November 2nd. This year, the prestigious indoor hard-court event has relocated from the Accor Arena (Bercy) to the Paris La Défense Arena.
