'Now I will turn my focus to Roland Garros': Elina Svitolina announces withdrawal from Internationaux de Strasbourg

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Strasbourg. The WTA 500 event, known as Internationaux de Strasbourg, will commence on Sunday. Some of the world's top players will participate to showcase their talent, secure the ultimate prize, and, most importantly, prepare for the second Grand Slam of the year, the French Open.

Ukraine’s Svitolina has announced that she will not participate in the competition this year. The 31-year-old posted the news on her official Instagram account. Svitolina stated that her focus will now be on preparing for Roland Garros.

"Hey everyone, just a little update to say that I have unfortunately had to withdraw from Strasbourg due to a little injury I picked up in Rome,” she wrote. “You all know Strasbourg has a special place in my heart, it was the venue of my first WTA title as a Mummy and I just love to play here in front of the amazing crowds. I want to wish Denis and his team another fantastic event and I hope to be back in 2026. Now I will turn my focus to Roland Garros. Thank you all for your understanding.”

Svitolina had an impressive record while playing in Strasbourg, where she has lifted the title on two occasions. She won the competition for the first time in 2020, defeating Elena Rybakina in the final with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. In 2023, Svitolina lifted the title after beating Russia’s Anna Blinkova in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-3.

Svitolina is going through an impressive season. In the last three events, the 30-year-old has managed to cement a spot in the quarterfinal or beyond in each of them. Her most recent appearance was in the Rome Open, where she was knocked out after losing to America’s Peyton Stearns at the last-four stage with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 7-6.
