Paula Badosa once again had to retire from a tennis match, this time from the "Copa de la Reina" (Queen's Cup) exhibition in Spanish tennis, marking her return to the court. The former World No. 2 faced her compatriot Jessica Bouzas on Saturday but couldn't finish the match and ultimately withdrew.

Spain hosted its traditional King's Cup and Queen's Cup of Tennis in Huelva. In the initial match, Badosa faced Spanish No. 2 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (World No. 62). The former Indian Wells champion took the first set 7-6 but then decided to retire due to physical discomfort.

Badosa, 27, has struggled with physical problems throughout the season, retiring from the Miami Open and being absent for about two months until her return at the Strasbourg Open. A few weeks ago, the issue resurfaced, and she retired mid-match at the Berlin Ladies Open – just before Wimbledon began.

Despite these issues, Badosa managed to get in shape for Wimbledon, though she was defeated in the first round by local player Katie Boulter (6-2, 3-6, 6-4). On the other hand, Bouzas Maneiro was one of the tournament's surprises, reaching the quarterfinals and defeating opponents like Sofia Kenin (28th) and Dayana Yastremska. The 22-year-old is confirmed as the Spanish No. 2 and will appear in the top 50 for the first time in her career this Monday.

The match saw Badosa take an early lead in the set, reaching a 4-2 advantage. Bouzas Maneiro caught up and managed to push it to a tie-break, which Badosa ultimately won. However, the former Indian Wells champion took the microphone before the second set and announced her retirement to the fans in Huelva.

“Thanks to the organization for counting on me this year. I also thank Jessica for coming today and all of you for your support,” commented Paula Badosa before retiring from the exhibition match. “I've been dealing with injury problems for a while, and your support is important,” Badosa concluded.

Later, the men's King's Cup match was played, where Daniil Medvedev defeated local favorite Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
