The 2025 WTA Queen’s Club Championships kicks into high gear tomorrow, June 13, with a compelling all-American quarterfinal clash.

Under the historic backdrop of the Queen’s Club in London, two of the United States' brightest prospects, Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova, are set to collide on the grass courts in what promises to be a high-quality encounter filled with intensity, power, and flair.

Navarro's grit: Bouncing back on grass?

Emma Navarro's 2025 season started brightly with a career-best Grand Slam quarterfinal run at the Australian Open, where she defeated top-20 players Ons Jabeur and Daria Kasatkina in tight three-set battles. However, since then, the 23-year-old American has struggled to string together consistent results, particularly during the clay-court stretch.

Across tournaments in Stuttgart, Madrid, Rome, and Strasbourg, Navarro managed just two wins over players ranked inside the top 50. She suffered early exits to the likes of Jelena Ostapenko, Donna Vekić, and Clara Tauson, and her Roland-Garros campaign ended abruptly with a 6-0, 6-1 first-round loss to Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro: her most lopsided defeat of the year.

Despite those setbacks, Navarro has shown signs of recovery this week on grass. In her opening round at the WTA 500 Queen’s Club Championships, she pulled off a determined comeback to defeat Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-3.

Anisimova aims to build momentum after strong spring showing

Amanda Anisimova has had a solid spring season on clay and hard courts, demonstrating steady progress and some deep runs at key tournaments. Throughout February and March, Anisimova also impressed with a title run in Doha, capturing the trophy by defeating Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 6-3 in the final. This marked a clear highlight and confidence boost for the young American.

Transitioning to grass, Anisimova has started her Queen’s Club tournament well. She overcame a tough first-round test against Jodie Burrage in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) showing resilience and adaptability on grass. In the round of 16, she produced a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Sonay Kartal, displaying an aggressive and confident style that suits the surface.

A rematch with new stakes

This will be their fourth career meeting, with Amanda Anisimova leading the head-to-head 3-0. All previous matches have seen Anisimova come out on top, including a recent quarterfinal win in Charleston earlier this year, where she defeated Navarro 7-5, 7-6 on clay. Their other meetings include wins for Anisimova in Toronto (2024) and Indian Wells (2022) both hard courts.

However, this will be their first time facing each other on grass, adding an intriguing new dimension to the matchup. Despite Navarro’s solid baseline game and tactical court awareness, Anisimova’s power and aggressive first-strike tennis on grass give her the edge. The contest will likely hinge on whether Navarro can disrupt Anisimova’s rhythm and control the tempo.

The winner will advance to the semifinals this Saturday to face the victor of either top seed Qinwen Zheng vs. McCartney Kessler, or Emma Raducanu vs. Rebecca Sramkova, making this quarterfinal clash a crucial stepping stone towards the later stages of the tournament.
