Even champions need a little bit of appreciation from the legends. And when that comes from Rafael Nadal, you know you've done something right.
Jannik Sinner pulled off a massive win on Sunday, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in four sets to lift his maiden Wimbledon title. It wasn’t just any win, it was redemption. Just over a month ago, Alcaraz had edged out Sinner in a grueling French Open final. This time, the Italian didn’t blink.
With Centre Court still buzzing, messages poured in. But the one from Nadal stood out. The 22-time Grand Slam champ didn’t just congratulate Sinner, but he also acknowledged the moment’s weight.
“Congratulations @janniksin on your first @Wimbledon! Special moments!” Nadal wrote on X, sharing in the Italian’s joy.
Sinner, who recently returned from a three-month doping suspension, has fought hard to rebuild momentum. Sunday’s win was not just about the title. It was about belief. His coach, Darren Cahill, put it best as he mentioned: “He needed that win today… He knew the importance of closing this one out.”
Congratulazioni @janniksin per il tuo primo @Wimbledon ! Momenti speciali!

Sé que no será un día fácil, pero… ¡Enhorabuena @carlosalcaraz por otra nueva final de Grand Slam y por la gran temporada que estás haciendo! https://t.co/rib2ntsws7
Alcaraz didn’t go unnoticed, either. Nadal showed support for his fellow Spaniard. “I know it won't be an easy day, but… Congratulations @carlosalcaraz on another Grand Slam final and for the great season you're having!” he added.
Sinner now holds four Grand Slam titles, just one behind Alcaraz. The two have split the last seven majors between them and are leading tennis’s next great era.
As Nadal watches from the sidelines in retirement, he seems to be passing the torch, with a message and a smile.
