'Seems like a sensible decision to me' Laura Robson supports Emma Raducanu’s decision to skip the French Open preparation and get an extra week of practice in Grass

British former player Laura Robson addressed Emma Raducanu ’s decision to pull out of the French Open qualifying after she was snubbed off her wildcard entry. Instead, the Brit is focused on the grass surface, which is her home season.

Earlier this week, the French Open wildcard entry lists were announced, and fans were shocked to not see Raducanu’s name there. However, she was the fourth reserve player and needed three other women to withdraw to make it to the main draw.

However, soon the Brit released an official statement to pull out of the French Open to focus on the grass court. Many eyebrows were raised about Raducanu and her decision to prioritize grass. Some even suggested that the Brit may even overprioritize.

She has to be really careful because her body is still getting used to playing week after week. So to play in Paris and then rush on to a different surface… Grass can be tough on the legs, you’ve got to be sharp and an extra week of practice can make a big difference. It seems like a sensible decision to me, Said Laura Robson

Rubbishing the claims, Robson defended her compatriot by emphasizing getting in an extra week of practice before the Grass Court. Raducanu has always done well in her home tournament and is expected to do well.

Compatriot Tim Henman also supports Emma Raducanu’s decision to pull out of French Open

British pro Emma Raducanu shocked the world when she pulled out of the French Open after getting snubbed of the wildcard. After being criticized by many for her decision, Tim Henman defends his compatriot.

He found it perfectly alright for the Brit to prioritize the grass season over clay. He also backed up the Brit for her clay cohort performance.

If she wants to move her focus onto the grass already and continue to work on her fitness that’s her prerogative. Sometimes we can read a bit too much into this thing. Said Tim Henman

After her decent run at the Billie Jean Cup, the Brit went to the quarterfinals in Stuttgart before losing to Iga Swiatek in a highly intense game. She will now have a week more than the rest to start her grass court leg and prepare well for her home slam.
