Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina has revealed the reason for not receiving a gift from her husband, Gael Monfils, on Mother’s Day. The 30-year-old has been married to the veteran French tennis star since 2021. She is the mother of a girl as well, who was born in 2022.
Svitolina was recently quoted in a report where she revealed the reason behind her husband's not giving her any Mother’s Day gifts. She stated that Monfils doesn’t celebrate the day as he believes every day should be celebrated by all the moms in the world. It is a day to celebrate the sacrifices women make to raise their children.
"It was good. Well, it's in different countries on different days. So Gael told me, 'Why are you celebrating? In France, it's in two weeks so I'm going to give you a gift later,'" Elina Svitolina said. "We should celebrate everyday. All the moms, we are doing such a hard work. But I'm on the holidays right now because Gael is at home with Skai so me, I'm a working mom."
Interestingly, Mother’s Day has been celebrated on different dates in different countries. In the United Kingdom, it is celebrated on March 30th, whereas in the United States of America, it is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.
Svitolina is currently taking part in the ongoing Rome Open, where she booked her spot in the quarterfinal of the event after beating America’s Danielle Collins in the round of 16 in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. She will now face another American, Peyton Stearns, in the last-eight clash on Tuesday. The 23-year-old cemented her spot in the quarterfinal after beating the former world number one, Japan’s Naomi Osaka, in the last-16 clash with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two players in professional tennis.
5 - Among current players, only Victoria Azarenka (seven) has now made more Women's Singles quarter-finals at the Internazionali d'Italia than Elina Svitolina (five). Feeling.#IBI25 | @InteBNLdItalia @WTA @WTA_insider pic.twitter.com/hsvDQ0v1ow
